• Friday 9 October 2026 Our Colourful Week of Emotions! This week in the EYFS, our focus has been emotions and feelings, inspired by our Book of the Week, The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas. We have been learning to recognise, name and understand different emotions, exploring how we can express our feelings and recognise how others might be feeling too. We have spent some time looking at our Zones of Regulation, understanding what they are and how we can identify which zone we're in and what we can do to get back to the green zone to be 'ready to learn'.
• Friday 9 October 2026 YR phonics - ck, e, u, r This week in phonics the children in the EYFS have learnt the sounds ck, e, u and r. They have learnt their first digraph 'ck'! A digraph is two letters that make one sound.

• Friday 2 October 2026 Class 1 Maths Week! Year 1 had a fantastic Maths Week, enjoying outdoor maths trails, crocodile challenges, creative shape art and exciting code-cracking puzzles. 🔢🐊🧩 We loved learning through practical activities and problem-solving! 🌟
• Monday 28 September 2026 EYFS September Roundup! What a busy and exciting first few weeks we have had in Reception! The children have settled beautifully into school life and are becoming increasingly confident with our routines. We have seen lots of playing, exploring, creating, talking and learning taking place, and it has been wonderful to watch the children beginning to develop their independence and curiosity.

• Friday 25 September 2026 EYFS Phonics - i, n, m & d This week in the EYFS we learnt 4 new phonemes in Phonics - i, n, m and d. The children have also learnt that what a 'grapheme' is: A grapheme is a letter or group of letters that represents a sound (phoneme). To help them understand this we say 'a grapheme is what a sound looks like when it's written down'. They recite this daily! We never hold back from teaching the children the correct terminology.

• Friday 18 September 2026 EYFS Phonics - s, a, t & p This week we began our Phonics learning in the EYFS! The children thoroughly enjoyed their first few Little Wandle sessions and would like to share with you the sounds we have learnt this week:
• Wednesday 16 September 2026 Year 1 Fossil Hunt Year 1 became palaeontologists! 🦖 We followed a map to hunt for hidden fossils around our school, discovering teeth, skeletons, ammonites and footprints along the way. 🔎

• Friday 11 September 2026 Gruffalo Granny comes to Year 1 virtually! What an amazing start to the year for Year 1 with a special virtual event for the release of the much anticipated 'Gruffalo Granny'.
• Friday 11 September 2026 Our First Week at Big School! What a fantastic first full week we have had in EYFS! It has been a big milestone for the children as they have stayed at school until after lunchtime, and we are incredibly proud of how well they have settled into their new routines. They have been busy learning what school is all about, getting to know the adults in our classroom, making new friendships and becoming familiar with their new surroundings.
• Friday 10 July 2026 EYFS visit Tyland Barn On Tuesday 7th July the EYFS visited Tyland Barn Nature Reserve for our very first school trip! We had such an excellent day and the children were a real credit to East Farleigh Primary School. Here's what we got up to...
• Thursday 25 June 2026 Year 2 trip to Whitstable Due to our Geography topic on Coasts, we went to see what human features help with tourism in Whitstable, plus finding coastal native plants who have adapted to the environment (linked to our science topic on plants) and looked at coastal erosion and sea defences.
• Wednesday 17 June 2026 Our First Sports Day! Reception had a fantastic time taking part in their very first Sports Day! The children enthusiastically joined in with a carousel of activities, demonstrating excellent teamwork, determination and perseverance as they tackled each challenge. They showed great confidence in trying new activities and encouraged one another throughout the afternoon.
• Friday 12 June 2026 Ahoy! Pirates have docked in the EYFS! What an incredible week the EYFS had as we immersed ourselves in a swashbuckling Pirate Week full of adventure, imagination, curiosity and learning!

• Thursday 4 June 2026 Beware the Ides of March! Exploring Julius Caesar This week, Year 4 have begun an exciting new unit of work focusing on William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar. The children have explored key scenes from the story through drama, bringing the text to life by acting out important moments and role-playing the characters' lines. This practical approach has helped pupils to understand the plot in greater depth and to sequence the events of the play with growing confidence. Working collaboratively, they have demonstrated excellent oracy skills, speaking clearly, listening carefully to one another, and using expression to convey meaning. The classroom has been full of enthusiasm as pupils stepped into the roles of Roman citizens, senators, and key figures from the drama. Through performance and discussion, they have developed both their comprehension and enjoyment of Shakespeare's language.
• Friday 22 May 2026 Releasing our Butterflies This term, our EYFS children have enjoyed an exciting hands-on learning experience as they observed the life cycle of butterflies.
• Thursday 21 May 2026 Coastal erosion - What happens when we become the waves against a sandy cliff? What happens if we build a sea defence with rocks?
• Friday 8 May 2026 Growing Plants and Hatching Chicks It's been a fantastic week in EYFS, with the children fully immersing themselves in our topic of Growing. We have had lots of exciting opportunities for hands-on learning and discovery. Our caterpillars have now all formed their chrysalises, and we are eagerly anticipating the arrival of butterflies before the end of next week. Observing the changes so closely has been a wonderful way for the children to develop their understanding of the lifecycle of a butterfly, supporting the EYFS Understanding the World ELG as they explore and talk about the natural world around them.

• Friday 1 May 2026 Writing in the EYFS This term, our EYFS children have been thoroughly enjoying taking part in Drawing Club, and it has quickly become a highlight of the week. Drawing Club, developed by Greg Bottrill, is a creative approach to early literacy that brings storytelling, imagination, and mark-making together in an engaging and meaningful way. Each session encourages children to immerse themselves in a story or theme, before expressing their ideas through drawing and early writing.
