Hamlet woods year R
Despite the weather being a bit damp, it did not dampen our spirits for a fabulous forest school day in Hamlet woods.
I had such a fantastic time with the children and the year R team.
At the start of our morning we met in our fire circle to discuss the day and our first activity. The children were spilt into 4 groups and then we went off to explore and have a nature sound walk. We had some wonderful words where we had to use our imagination for. Ie. Whoosh. What can you hear that sounds like whoosh ? The wind rushing past your ears perhaps? We spotted some beautiful yellow daffodils on our nature sound walk - a strong reminder that spring, even though it might not look like it - is on the way!
We all met back at the fire circle, had a drink and a snack. We had a look at some things I found with my group. We touched some moss and a fern. Nature is wonderful and intriguing. We had a little visit from the resident cat Hamlet. The children really liked him as he was so friendly. Once we were refreshed, it was time for an adventure. This time we explored the ‘round house’ built by the scouts. Then it was time to go off in different directions to find the perfect spot amongst the trees to make a den. Each group had a tarp and some paracord. The children tried their hand at making knots. This can be pretty hard when you are only 5 - but it was wonderful to see their perseverance. After the fun of den building in the woods, our tummy’s were rumbling and we all agreed it was time for lunch.
Back at our fire circle we got the fire going and cooked some sausages and baked beans and enjoyed a hot dog! Once everyone had full tummy’s we read a lovely story called ‘Nature trail’. It was all about reminding ourselves that if we are in our gardens, in the woods, a park or generally outside we are never alone as nature is all around us. It’s a lovely thing to sit and listen and watch and you will soon spot a living creature or hear one.
The children then played and had great fun together until they were reunited with parents, grandparents and carers!
Have a wonderful weekend👋🏻
