Year 5 Hamlet Wood 13th March
I think it’s safe to say year 5 had a brilliant day in the woods! They impressed me with their confidence in this environment. They worked so well together in their teams and were able to build magnificent dens. They really embraced the ‘ back the earth’ scavenger hunt. It’s a scavenger hunt of the senses in nature. For feel, they were asked to take off shoes and socks and walk barefoot on the ground.
I was so impressed that quite a few of the children gave this a go. One comment I overheard was ‘ come on guys just give it a go and get on with it, it’s brilliant ’. A few of the children said it felt cold, but good / they said it felt slimy and satisfying .
I love this activity as it truly connects us to nature by exploring things we might never do. Being able to touch moss and feel how soft it is, see the difference shades of a green of the lichen growing on the trees and logs. It’s all quite wonderful!
