Y3 Canterbury Trip
We had an unforgettable day of discovery and sunshine during our recent school trip to Canterbury, where history came vividly to life.
Our visit began at the Canterbury Roman Museum, where we stepped back nearly 2,000 years to explore life in Roman Britain. One of the highlights of our day was an interactive workshop on Roman technology, where we learned how the Romans engineered roads, buildings, and ingenious everyday tools. It sparked our curiosity and led to lots of interesting questions as we discovered just how advanced Roman innovation was!
We then got creative by making our own mosaics inspired by real Roman designs. Using colourful tiles, we carefully crafted patterns similar to those found in Roman villas. Each of us created something unique, and it was exciting to try out an ancient art form for ourselves.
One of the most exciting moments was exploring the remains of a real Roman townhouse. Walking alongside the buried foundations, we were able to imagine what life would have been like for the people who lived there. It made everything we had learned feel real and brought history to life.
We also became archaeologists for the day by examining a range of Roman artefacts. We learned how to identify and analyse different objects, from pottery fragments to everyday tools, and began to understand how historians uncover clues about the past.
Another highlight was making our own Roman-style coins. Using big hammers, we pressed designs into metal, just like the Romans did. It was loud, fun, and definitely one of our favourite activities!
With beautiful sunny weather throughout the day, we had a fantastic time learning, exploring, and laughing together. Our trip to Canterbury was a perfect mix of education and fun, and it’s an experience we will all remember!
