It's Easter Time in the EYFS
This week in our EYFS classroom, we have been celebrating all things Easter with lots of exciting learning, creativity, and fun. The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring this special topic across all areas of the curriculum.
In Maths, we brought our learning to life using bunnies, chicks, and Easter eggs to support our understanding. The children used colourful eggs to create repeating patterns, showing great attention to detail and creativity. We also explored the concepts of “more than” and “less than” while sharing out Easter eggs, helping to build early number skills in a fun and engaging way.
In Writing, we focused on the story Wolfie, a humorous and heartwarming tale about a baby wolf dressed as a bunny. At first, his new big sister Dot is convinced he is trying to eat her, but it soon becomes clear that he simply wants to be her loving little brother. The children thoroughly enjoyed the story and took part in a lively debate about Wolfie’s true intentions, sharing their ideas and listening carefully to one another.
We also embraced the creative side of Easter by designing and making our very own Easter bonnets, ready for our parade with Year 1 and Year 2. The children were incredibly proud of their creations, and it was wonderful to see their individuality shine through. In addition, we have been busy practising our song, Flowers in the Rain, which we performed at the church on Thursday with great enthusiasm. Finally, we couldn't let Easter week pass without a little bit of chocolate, the children enjoyed making their own chocolate nest cakes to take home this week, a sweet treat to reward them for all their hard work this term.
One of the most exciting moments of the week happened when we returned from PE on Monday to discover a beautiful gift and a letter waiting for us in the classroom—it had been left by the Easter Bunny! The letter asked the children to write back with their guesses about what might be inside the mysterious gift, and this became a focus for our writing throughout the week. The excitement built each day until Thursday, when we finally opened it together. To our surprise, no one had guessed correctly! Inside was a puzzle, which we worked together to complete, revealing the message: “It’s time for an egg hunt!” We rushed out into the garden where plastic eggs were hidden all around. The children helped one another to find an egg each and were delighted to enjoy a special Easter treat with their snack. It was such a magical and memorable surprise from the Easter Bunny!
It has been a joyful and busy week full of learning, creativity, and celebration. We wish you all a lovely and restful half term break!
