Fossils in Farleigh!

There have been some very exciting things going on in Year 1!

We received a letter from a palaeontologist telling us there may be signs of fossils in East Farleigh. He left us with a map of the school and told Mrs Chapman where we may find signs of life from millions of years ago.

We followed our maps! Behind the cabin we found some dinosaur footprints. They gave us clues about what dinosaurs they could belong to. Over the term we will learn about lots of different dinosaurs and see if we can match the footprint to the dino.

Outside the school office we found some ammonites!
We will be learning about Mary Anning and her discoveries…perhaps these were a clue. We continued to plot our findings on our maps to see what we could discover.

Outside Class 5, we found some dinosaur teeth. We discussed whether the teeth were sharp or not, and whether they could belong to a meat or plant eater. These will be useful when we learn about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores this term.

Finally, we found some dinosaur skeletons in the school garden. We were excited to see the different shapes of all the dinosaurs and the difference in their skeletons!
