Class 1 Maths Week!

What a fantastic Maths Week we have had in Year 1! The children have enjoyed taking their maths learning beyond the classroom, tackling exciting practical challenges and discovering that maths really can be fun, creative and hands-on.

Monday saw us heading outdoors for a Maths Trail. Using our surroundings, the children completed challenges involving counting, measuring, comparing, shapes, patterns and problem-solving.

On Tuesday, our classroom became the Crocodile Café! 🐊 The children visited different stations and used their crocodile pegs to practise using the < and > symbols to compare numbers. In the afternoon, we got creative with 2D shapes, using a range of art techniques including pointillism, finger painting, felt tips, chalk pastels and tissue-paper collage. The children then turned their creations into colourful shape mobiles.

Thursday brought an exciting code-cracking challenge! 🔐 Working in teams, the children tackled 10 different stations involving puzzles, patterns and logical thinking. Their mission was to solve every challenge and collect all 10 Numberblocks characters. They showed fantastic teamwork, perseverance and problem-solving skills along the way!

We finished the week on Friday with more practical challenges linked to ordering numbers and comparing quantities, putting our knowledge of <, > and = to the test.

It has been a brilliant week of exploring, creating, reasoning and problem-solving, and we are so proud of how enthusiastically the children have embraced every challenge! 🌟
