RSHE
RSHE Vision
At East Farleigh, we strive to enhance pupils’ Personal, Social and Health Education through an engaging and creative RSHE curriculum. As a result of this, pupils will be proud to become independent and responsible citizens of our community. We provide exciting opportunities to explore and master the all-important social skills with others, through enriching all learning opportunities throughout the day. Emotional health and wellbeing is at the forefront, as we believe this is key in empowering our pupils to become lifelong learners. We aim to prepare children for life, helping them really know and value who they truly are and understand how they relate to other people in this ever-changing world.
Curriculum Design
The RSHE curriculum at East Farleigh follows a structured and comprehensive approach to teaching PSHE, including statutory Relationships and Health Education. We follow the Jigsaw 3-11 scheme right from the EYFS through to upper KS2; each year the scheme builds upon knowledge and skills in a spiral and progressive way, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others. With a strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, Jigsaw 3-11 thoroughly engages all pupils in the relevant statutory, and non-statutory, PSHE within a whole-school approach. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration and focus.
Curriculum Progression
Progression in each Year group and through the school is as follows:
EYFS RSHE Curriculum progression
Year 1 RSHE Curriculum progression
Year 2 RSHE Curriculum progression
Year 3 RSHE Curriculum progression
Year 4 RSHE Curriculum progression
Year 5 RSHE Curriculum progression
Year 6 RSHE Curriculum progression
Parental Involvement
We recognize the crucial role parents play in their children’s education. We keep parents informed about the RSHE curriculum and offer opportunities for them to review the materials and discuss any concerns. We believe that a strong partnership between home and school enhances the learning experience for our students.
Supporting Resources
We provide a range of resources to support our RSHE curriculum, including:
• Books and Literature: Age-appropriate books that cover various aspects of relationships, sex, and health education.
• Online Resources: Safe and approved websites that offer further information and activities related to RSHE topics.
• Workshops and Assemblies: Regular sessions that reinforce the curriculum content and provide opportunities for deeper understanding.
