Welcome to Year 2

Look how far we’ve come! We’re now at the top of Key Stage One, setting the example for younger students and becoming even more independent. We even get to take on the leading roles in our school Nativity!

We are learning with Miss Walsh, Mrs Septhon, Mrs Easom, Miss Kamile and Mrs Stammers this year, and even have specialist teachers for Music and PE on Wednesdays!

We know that as we grow, our learning takes us on new adventures that engage, excite and empower us. This year, we will be consolidating our foundational skills and exploring lots of new and exciting areas of the curriculum. Throughout Year 2, we will be developing our phonics skills to explore a range of fiction and non-fiction texts, moving towards independent reading of chapter books! In Writing, our focus book in Term 1 is ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers, and we explore a wider range of books through debates, role-play and discussions in our Oracy lessons! As mathematicians, we are building on our pre-existing knowledge. As we move from place value to time-telling and fractions, we develop our problem-solving skills as we investigate and deepen our understanding of our Maths topics.

That’s not all! We’re Historians, Scientists and Artists too! We are exploring living things and their habitats, understanding the Colour Wheel and developing the technique to compose Still Life artwork! We will learn about some of the inspiring 'Movers and Shakers' in History, and how the impact of Artists, Activists, Monarchs, Explorers and Scientists has shaped the world around us. We understand ourselves and the people around us through our RSHE topics, and develop emotional literacy by using our Zones of Regulation.

We even have World Book Day, Science Day and a trip later in the year to enjoy too!

Wow, what a wonderful year Year 2 will be! Keep up-to-date with our learning through our class page.
