Our Learning Environment
Welcome to Our School
We have created an exciting and stimulating learning environment, both inside and outside the school, where children can be creative and develop their unique learning styles. We understand the importance of inspirational play areas for children of all ages, and we strive to make our outdoor play spaces enjoyable and engaging.
Our Buildings
Our 1950s Key Stage 2 (KS2) building and Hall have been recently enhanced to match the modern Key Stage 1 (KS1) extension.
Our classrooms are modern, light, and spacious, prioritizing learning while maintaining aesthetic appeal. Each year group has its own classroom, and there are dedicated spaces for small group work with a teaching assistant, either in a screened space on the corridor or in a breakout room.
We have a large hall used for lunch, PE classes, assemblies, and other school activities. It is equipped with a large projector screen for presentations, as well as comprehensive lighting and sound equipment for school productions.
We also have dedicated spaces for children with special educational needs and additional nurturing spaces that provide a home-like atmosphere within the school. Our music room hosts class music lessons, peripatetic music lessons, and music clubs. Our beautiful school library, located at the center of the school, offers a variety of diverse texts.
Digital Learning
We are a Google school, benefiting from the Rural Gigabit Connectivity program, which provides the bandwidth and speeds needed for our 60 Chromebooks and 20 iPads. We believe children should become discerning users of technology, with easy access to devices from corridor charging cabinets. This investment has allowed us to embed digital skill development and literacy within our curriculum without teaching IT as a separate subject.
Each classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard, an ELMO document camera, a teacher laptop, and an iPad. We ensure our IT practices keep pace with digital best practices in education.
Outdoor Spaces
Although our outdoor space is relatively small, we have transformed it to provide high-quality play spaces and equipment, with a focus on the environment. With stunning views of the Medway Valley, we offer various natural areas to support learning, including a compact forest school area. Our biodiverse outdoor space features a greenhouse, pond, willow house, and raised planting areas.
Play is at the heart of our school. Our play areas are zoned for a variety of activities, including an astro-turfed surface for mini-games or picnics, mini-football and mini-basketball, a dance zone, dressing-up area, and a popular scooter zone with scooters for all ages.
The cabin is a relaxing space for Lego, mindful coloring, and other quiet activities. Our trim-trail is scheduled for an upgrade, with plans to expand in 2024-2025. The Reception Class has its own large, well-equipped play area adjoining the classroom.
We are fortunate to have access to the Parish recreational ground adjoining the school, which is regularly used for games, clubs, the daily mile run, sports day and even a 'Colour-run' in the summer. Alessia Russo, England & Arsenal Football player and alumni of East Farleigh started her career on there too!
In September 2024, we completed our new creative ‘Garden Room’ classroom, allowing for smaller group sessions in Design Technology (DT), Art, and Music around the giant ‘Kitchen Table.’ The adjoining deck area provides a tranquil space for nurturing, coaching, mentoring, or supported learning for both adults and children.
