Year 5 begin building the Parthenon!
Our DT day began with looking at techniques for building frame structures. We used isometric paper to draw our cuboids and then began making an initial model using straws. This allowed us to practise our measuring..."measure twice, cut once" was the aim!
We then considered how our designs could be made using wood and looked at different joining techniques on a small scale. Having then considered how to make the wood joins stronger, we evaluated the best possible methods, all the while practising our oracy using technical words such as 'horizontal, vertical, diagonal' to name a few.
Finally, we made our wooden structures adding supports where needed. Year 5 should be so proud of their team work, DT skills and oracy skills. They were amazing!
Stay tuned for the next Year 5 news item when we will reveal our final Parthenon models.
