Marvellous Me!

The children in the EYFS have been busy over the last week painting beautiful portraits of themselves! This term our topic is 'All About Me' and we want the children to celebrate their individuality and uniqueness. The children took it in turns to sit with an adult and spend time looking in the mirror and discussing what makes them, them! They discussed eye colour, hair colour, face shape, skin colour, defining features such as freckles or dimples and so much more. It was an excellent opportunity for early language development as the children had to think of words to describe themselves.

The children then had a range of paints to choose from, they were eagerly matching their skin or hair colour with the different tones, before beginning their wonderful paintings. This activity supports the children's development in the Expressive Arts & Design part of our curriculum. It was such a joy to see the children study themselves in the mirror as they moved their brushes to achieve the desired shape and curves of their features.

I think you will agree they did amazingly, their self-portraits are now proudly displayed outside of the EYFS classroom, can you guess who is who?
