Magnificent Mini-beasts
This term, Class Two have been learning about Living Things and what is necessary for their survival. This week, we refined our knowledge of habitats by exploring microhabitats. We considered what microhabitats we might find within our school grounds, and made predictions about which mini-beasts we might find living there. We decided it would be best to explore the field, gardens and Forest School area.
Beneath logs, Class 2 uncovered a hidden world of worms, earwigs, spiders, slugs, and woodlice. We found ladybirds on leaves and beetles scurrying under leaf litter. Centipedes wriggled out from beneath a lifted stone and ants marched across tree stumps. We even spotted a butterfly in the grass! Class Two carefully observed and identified a range of mini-beasts in their microhabitats, and discussed why these specific areas within our school grounds would be suitable for that mini-beast to live in.
Take a look at our findings!
