Dia de los Muertos

The EYFS had a fantastic week learning all about Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), the Mexican celebration of life.

We have engaged in a wide range of activities this week covering the full breadth of the early years curriculum. Our book of the week this week was 'Gustavo the shy ghost', to support our early writing we drew pictures and began to write initial sounds/simple CVC words to make a list of things Gustavo would need for his party.

In Maths this week we have been looking at quantities in different ways, on the creative table we used dice to support our maths learning and made skeleton collages, adding different colours based on the number rolled on the dice.

We have explored a number of creative art and design activities this week including making outfits for skeletons and traditional Pan de Muertos out of playdough, making paper marigold headbands, making a skeleton picture by cutting and sticking the bones in the correct place, making sugar skulls using cotton buds to dot paint onto skeleton outlines and more! These have also been great at working our fine motor skills.

We'd also like to give a special shout out to Mrs Long who came in to teach us some traditional South American dances!
